This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, with whom we share it, how we protect it, and the choices you have about your information. By using our Site you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information we collect
We collect information in several ways on cioedition.com and our branded sites:
a. Information you provide directly
When you subscribe to newsletters, request whitepapers, register for events, submit forms, or contact us, you may provide personal data such as: name, job title, company, address, telephone, fax, email, industry or demographic preferences, and any other information you choose to provide.
b. Automatically collected information
When you visit our Site we (and third-party service providers we use) may collect technical information automatically, including IP address, browser type and version, device identifiers, operating system, referring/exit pages, pages visited, time spent on pages, and clickstream data. We use log files and similar technologies to aggregate trends and analyze site use.
c. Cookies and similar technologies
We and our partners use cookies, web beacons, pixels and local storage to recognize you, remember preferences, analyze usage and deliver personalized content and ads. Some cookies are necessary for site functionality; others are optional (analytics, advertising). You can control cookie preferences through your browser and our cookie consent tool.
d. Third-party sources
We may receive information about you from third parties (for example, event partners or lead enrichment services) and combine it with data we collect.
e. Children
Our Site is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe we have collected data from a child, contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
2. How we use information
We use personal information for purposes including:
- To deliver the services, newsletters, downloads, event registrations, and content you request.
- To operate, maintain and improve our Site, products and services, and user experience.
- To personalize content, recommendations and communications.
- To send periodic communications, editorial updates, product news and marketing- if you opt in.
- To process transactions and manage billing, if applicable.
- To detect, investigate and prevent fraudulent or illegal activity and enforce our Terms of Use.
- To respond to your requests or questions and provide customer support.
- To compile aggregated or de-identified information for internal and partner use.
We will only use your personal information for the purposes for which it was collected or as otherwise disclosed to you.
3. Sharing and disclosure
We do not sell your email address or personal data. However, we may share information in the following ways:
a. Service providers and partners
We share personal data with third-party vendors who perform services on our behalf- for example, email delivery, analytics, hosting, payment processors, marketing services, and event fulfillment. These parties are contractually bound to use your information only as necessary to perform services for us.
b. Acting as an agent
For certain partner programs or promotions, we may act as an agent to collect data and securely pass it to a partner or the partner’s authorized agent for fulfilment. In these cases we will disclose that a partner will receive your information at the point of collection.
c. Marketing on behalf of third parties
If you opt in to third-party promotional messages, we may send those messages on behalf of our partners; in such cases we typically send the message ourselves and do not release your email address to the partner, unless otherwise disclosed at the point of collection.
d. Legal reasons
We may disclose information to comply with legal obligations, respond to lawful requests by public authorities, protect the rights, property, or safety of CIO Edition, our users, or others, or enforce our terms.
e. Business transfers
If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganization, sale of assets, or bankruptcy, personal data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify affected users where required by law.
f. Aggregated/anonymous data
We may share or publish aggregated and anonymized data that does not reasonably identify any individual.
4. Cookies, tracking and advertising
We use cookies and similar technologies for site functionality, analytics and advertising. Advertising partners may use cookies or other identifiers to deliver ads and measure ad performance. We do not control the cookies placed by third-party advertisers. You can manage preferences via your browser settings and our cookie consent tool, and opt out of targeted advertising through industry opt-out mechanisms (such as your device or network-level choices).
5. Analytics and third-party services
We use third-party analytics and advertising services (for example, web analytics platforms and social media features). These providers may collect information about your use of the Site and use cookies to personalize content and ads or measure performance. Their use of data is governed by their respective privacy policies.
6. Data security
We take commercially reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration or destruction. Sensitive information submitted on secure pages is protected using industry-standard encryption (SSL/TLS). However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure- absolute security cannot be guaranteed.
7. Data retention
We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to provide services, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and as otherwise described in this Policy. When personal data is no longer needed we will securely delete or anonymize it.
